Season 3, Episode 4 Podcast

We had a super broadcast today...what a treat being joined by Kaitlin Carano, one of the founding members of the Gator Radio Experience back in 2008. We also did a 2010 year in review and Kaitlin featured some of the music that she has played on her show at Georgetown, "Hipsters Don't Lie."

Gator Radio Experience Episode #21 Podcast

What a show tonight! This was the first time we attempted to have live music on the show and we had a blast. A special thank you is in order to Mr. Contois and his buddy David for joining us and playing live on the GRE. They played a variety of electric guitars, the slide, a banjo, and even a mandolin.

We also heard from Malaika about the upcoming "Peace Dot" launch at Castilleja next week and Annie shared a piece on Monty Python. We were also happy to be joined by GRE project member Natalie for the first time this year. Natalie contributed to the project last year, but has been quite busy this year and we're glad she is back!

Thanks to everyone who listened live and contributed to the chat. It was quite a show!

Please mark your schedule for the following broadcast dates:

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 - the Gator Radio Experience covers the "Peace Dot" Alpha Launch at Castilleja. We'll broadcast live from 7:00 pm Pacific - 8:30 pm Pacific and we'll be including video as well as audio. Click here to convert the start time of this broadcast to your time zone.

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 - The Gator Radio Experience will by joined by  GRE project alumnae Stephanie Lueng, Angie Moore, Kaitlin Carano, and Nicola Schulze. Gator Radio Experience Episode #18 Podcast

Our first broadcast of the 2009-2010 school year was anchored by Annie, Malaika and Sam. Jen Wagner was our guest and we featured a music set by Big Surrender. Our apologies to Jen for our technical difficulties and we hope she'll come back and visit with us again in the future.

We are trying to broadcast on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 pm pacific/10 pm eastern, but we are going to shift our broadcast date for our next show to Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm due to a school event.

We know the Gator Radio Experience could benefit from improved publicity and PR. Please help us by Tweeting us, posting us to Facebook, reblogging, linking to us, telling your friends about our projects, etc.

The GRE Team thanks all of our supporters and listeners. We're looking forward to a great second season!

*Note-please excuse the slightly wonky audio. We hope that audio from our next broadcast is improved.

GRE Participates in Classroom 2.0 Live!

Classroom 2.0 Live! is a regular Saturday morning free professional development experience for teachers. Visit their website to check out their full archives and to see what upcoming professional development experiences they have scheduled on their Calendar.

Anyway, Sam C and I had the good fortune to participate on last Saturday's CR 2.0 Live show to share about our experience with starting up the Gator Radio Experience this past year. I'm including my slides that we used in the presentation and the recorded audio from Saturday's presentation (courtesy of Jeff Lebow from Worldbridges). If you'd prefer, you may catch the recorded Elluminate session at the CR 2.0 Live Archives. At some point, if I have time, I'll try to sync up the slides with the recorded audio and post as a slidecast over at Slideshare.net. Until then, just click through the slides as you're playing the recorded audio if you'd like.

Thanks to Sam C. for waking up early on Saturday morning and participating with myself and the CR 2.0 Live project!

Gator Radio Experience Episode #17 Podcast

This was our final official broadcast of the 2008-2009 school year. This night was dubbed "Senior Night," where we bid farewell to our Senior leaders on this project, Nicola Schulze, Angie Moore, and Stephanie Leung. Our fourth senior, Kaitlin Carano, was unable to join us but we were happy that she had the opportunity to co-host one final broadcast on May 5th. Our featured band for this broadcast was Punchface, and our music expert Sam C did the intro and song sequeys for this spot.

The Gator Radio Experience would like to extend a great big virtual shout out to all who have supported us in any way throughout the year. Your participation, contributions, comments and encouragement really have helped us persevere through 17 live broadcasts.

Stay tuned to this blog and our Twitter Stream for more news and updates from the Gator Radio Experience. There is some talk of a few summer broadcasts, but if not we look forward to coming back ready to go during the 2009-2010 school year with the Gator Radio Experience Version 2.0.

Have a great summer!

Gator Radio Experience Earthcast 2009 - Hour #3

Gator Radio Experience project members Nicola and Stephanie lead a conversation with our friends from Shanghai No. 3 Girls School. Later in the show joined by Devon, Piper, and Kylie who are three youth who are launching a website called, "Earth Savers Club for Kids, " this July. Kudos to Nicola, Stephanie and Malaika for their wonderful work moderating this hour of Earthcast 2009.

A special thank you to the girls at Shanghai No 3 Girls School and the girls from the Earth Savers Club for Kids for joining us this hour.

Gator Radio Experience Earthcast 2009 - Hour #5

During the 5th hour of Earthcast 2009, Natalie and Angie and the crew from the Gator Radio Experience in Palo Alto, California are joined by Sean Harrington, of Better Place, to talk about electric vehicle technology. Also in this hour the students are joined by Sam Wiley of the Wiley One, the ensemble that created the wonderful song, Go Green. The Gator Radio Experience typically includes a featured band, and this week Sam C. featured "Cloud Cult" for the work that they've done in the area of greening the music industry. Finally, this excellent broadcast ends with GRE team member Nicola giving a review of several environmental related films such as Who Killed the Electric Car. There are a few minutes of audio in this recording that get a little warbly and we apologize for this. Audio quality for the great majority of this segment is excellent.

On behalf of everyone at the Gator Radio Experience I would like to thank both Sean Harrington and Sam Wiley for their participation as guests on hour #5 of Earthcast 2009!

Plight of Western Sahara Podcast Recording

On April 15th I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Pedro Pinto Leite and Cynthia Basinet about the plight of Western Sahara. Pedro Pinto Leite is a Portuguese international jurist based in Holland and the coordinator of the Dutch section of the International Association of Jurists for Western Sahara. Together with Cynthia Basinet an activist, actress, singer, and a Nobel Peace prize nominee we discussed the history and the current situation of Western Sahara. A former colony of Spain, Western Sahara, also know as the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, is fighting for a referendum so they can become independent from Morocco. We as students can help Free Western Sahara by joining the Facebook Cause Free Western Sahara and by contacting our representatives and pressing them to support their colleagues Donald M. Payne and Joseph R. Pitts by signing the letter they have written urging President Obama to support the Sahrawi peoples right to self-determination. We will soon have the privilege to talk with Pedro and Cynthia again and discuss in further detail what we as a community can do to help those fighting for independence and living in refugee camps.

GRE Special Broadcast with our Guests from Italy

We did a spontaneous broadcast today with our guests from Italy who have been visiting our school community over the past week. Unfortunately our friends leave us tomorrow, but I think I can speak for everyone in our school community when I say that we really enjoyed the experience of getting to know them better this week.

Kudos to Natalie and Nicola for an excellent job of moderating this conversation with our 18 friends from Italy!

Gator Radio Experience Podcast #9

Wow, what a wonderful show tonight as we were joined by Amanda Ritter, Jenny Luca, Jess McCulloch, and some of their students and colleagues from the Melbourne area. Actually, Jess lives in a separate location from Amanda and Jenny, who work together at the same school I believe.

We had a really nice exchange as we discussed the bush fires that have devastated a good deal of Victoria. On behalf of everyone on the Gator Radio Experience team and the students at our school here in Palo Alto, California, our thoughts and prayers are with all Australians.

In addition to our conversation regarding the fires, we were joined by Sam C who introduced our featured band for the show, The Hoodies. Following our music segment our show hosts shared their thoughts on the Oscars.

Enjoy the podcast! And again, thank you to all of our guests from Australia and to everyone who listened live.

Gator Radio Experience Podcast #8

This was the broadcast that wasn't in a way. Unfortunately the Internet Tubes were not on our side for this broadcast and we were unable to stream live to Ustream. It was too bad, because tonight was the debut of new our new Gator Radio Team member Nicola. Also joining us during the music segment was our music specialist, Sam, who shared her experiences with us.

Our featured guest on this episode was Jose Rodriguez, a member of the Earthbridges Community, who spoke to us about the 24 Hour Webcastathon on Earthday 2009 called, Earthcast09. The Gator Radio Experience will be moderating an hour long block for Earthcast09 and it was nice to connect with Mr. Rodriguez to learn more about the project. If you are interested in helping out with the Earthcast09 project in any capacity, please visit the Earthbridges Community website or email the Earthbridges community at earthbridges at gmail dot com.

Thank you to everyone who tried to tune in and listen live. We apologize for the technical glitches and we hope you'll come back to listen to our next broadcast on Tuesday, February 24th at 8:00 PM Pacific.

Gator Radio Experience Podcast #7

A truly spectacular show tonight where we recapped the historic and memorable inauguration of President Obama. A special thanks to Ms. Brown for joining us live from DC and sharing her experience from the day and also to Scott from Tokyo for taking time out to speak with us as well. The GRE Production Team was also joined by Julia, a high school student from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the end of the show, we opend up the lines and we had listeners call in to share their feelings, which really proved to be a nice addition to out show (we'll try to continue to do this in upcoming shows).

Of course a shout out is in order for tonight's featured band, Brave Citizens (check out their myspace page or visit them on iTunes).

Again, thank you for participating in our show tonight!

Gator Radio Experience Podcast #5

We had a great show this past Wednesday night. Thanks to all who listened and participated in the chat. We did a little review of some of our favorite things from 2008, talked with Anna W about the recent "Pantomime" performance at Castilleja, and we also featured some Creative Commons licensed music stored at the website, CCmixter.org. Have a wonderful rest of the year, everyone! We'll see you on January 7th, 2009 at 6:30 pm for GRE #6. Happy New Year from the Gator Radio Team!

Gator Radio Experience Podcast #4

We had a fantastic fourth broadcast speaking with Ishan Sinha and Rishi Raghunathan regarding the tragic situation in Mumbai, India from last week. We also had a really nice time chatting with Brynn Harrington of Menlo Park, California about her work with the Blue Planet Run organization which is dedicated to raising awareness about water quality issues around the world. We also did a movie review of Twilight and a book review of Agatha Christie's, The Body in the Library. Thanks to everyone who listened in live and participated in the show by chatting.

Unfortunately I didn't press record right away, thus we missed the first 5 minutes of tonight's call. My apologies for that, but I think you'll enjoy the rest of the production.

Don't forget that our next broadcast is Wednesday, December 10th at 8:00 pm PST.
