Alumnae Reunion Show this Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm pacific

The Gator Radio Experience is eagerly anticipating our Alumnae reunion show this coming Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm pacific. We have loose commitments from Stephanie, Kaitlin, Angie, and Nicola to join us live tomorrow night. All four of these college freshmen were instrumental in contributing to the basic idea of trying to produce a regular, live Internet radio broadcast at Castilleja.

This reunion show also coincides with the celebration of the Gator Radio's birthday (Oct 29th, 2008 was our first live broadcast!) Sam will be remixing some of the bands that we've featured over the past year and we hope that we'll be joined by our first guest ever, Doug Symington, who is currently in the Canadian Rockies working a World Cup Ski event.

We hope to see you tomorrow night for our Alumnae reunion broadcast and the celebration of the fact that our project just turned one!

---UPDATE--- We just got word that we will be joined live tomorrow night by Doug Symington, who was our very first guest on Gator Radio back on October 29th, 2009! Doug is working a Worldcup Ski event in the Canadian Rockies and will be joining us via his cellphone to help celebrate our birthday!

Gator Radio Experience Coverage of the Peace Dot Alpha Launch

The Gator Radio Experience was pleased to run the webcast for the Alpha Launch of the Peace Dot project at Castilleja School on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009! This was our first ever live webcast involving video. If you watch this, I think you'll agree that Annie did a fine job of managing this 'cast. She reports that at one time during the live webcast we had over 60 participants! We know, too, that people were participating in the live webcast from all over the world!

Enjoy the live coverage of last night's event courtesy of the Gator Radio Experience:

For now we'll link to the video as we're having difficulty with embedding directly in the body of this blog post.

Gator Radio Experience Episode #21 Podcast

What a show tonight! This was the first time we attempted to have live music on the show and we had a blast. A special thank you is in order to Mr. Contois and his buddy David for joining us and playing live on the GRE. They played a variety of electric guitars, the slide, a banjo, and even a mandolin.

We also heard from Malaika about the upcoming "Peace Dot" launch at Castilleja next week and Annie shared a piece on Monty Python. We were also happy to be joined by GRE project member Natalie for the first time this year. Natalie contributed to the project last year, but has been quite busy this year and we're glad she is back!

Thanks to everyone who listened live and contributed to the chat. It was quite a show!

Please mark your schedule for the following broadcast dates:

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 - the Gator Radio Experience covers the "Peace Dot" Alpha Launch at Castilleja. We'll broadcast live from 7:00 pm Pacific - 8:30 pm Pacific and we'll be including video as well as audio. Click here to convert the start time of this broadcast to your time zone.

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 - The Gator Radio Experience will by joined by  GRE project alumnae Stephanie Lueng, Angie Moore, Kaitlin Carano, and Nicola Schulze. A Few News Items and a Programming Note

The Gator Radio Experience is pleased to announce that our work will receive mention in an upcoming book by two professors from George Mason University, Lynne Schrum and Gwen Solomon. The book is titled How2 Web2 and Where2 Next and will be released from ISTE in 2010. While I'm not totally certain what the book is about, I have a hunch that it deals with student use of various mixed media and that our project will be mentioned in a short paragraph. Congrats to all Castilleja Gator Radio Experience team members, both past and present, for your hard work on this project over the past year! It is quite an honor to be referenced in a book!

Secondly, the Gator Radio Experience's music expert, Sam, will be participating in a Teen Tech Forum at the Western Association of Venture Capitalist meeting here in Menlo Park this week. Michael Arrington of Tech Crunch fame will be moderating the panel.  Good luck and have fun on the panel, Sam. We know you'll do great!

Programming Notes:
Our next show is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 7:00 pm pacific/10 pm eastern. We're looking forward to this show as we'll be joined by Castilleja Tech Department member, Adam Contois, for our music segment. Adam will play live music for the first time ever on the Gator Radio Experience! If you'd like a sneak peak of Adam's guitar playing skills, check out a podcast from the Edtechtalk Brainstorm in June.

Finally, it looks like our Alumnae reunion show scheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm pacific/10 pm eastern will actually be happening. While the committments are tentative, it looks like we'll be joined by GRE alumnae Stephanie (UC-Santa Barbara), Nicola (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo), Kaitlin (Georgetown), and possibly Angie (Pitzer). All four of these alumnae were key contributors to helping get the GRE project up and running last year it it will be wonderful to check in with them to see what they're up to. The 3rd of November also happens to be near the 1 year anniversary of our project (Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 was our first broadcast). We'll use the 3rd as an opportunity to celebrate one year of Gator Radio Goodness as well!

We hope you're able to join us on these upcoming broadcasts. Thanks for supporting the Gator Radio Experience!

Gator Radio Experience Episode #18 Podcast

Our first broadcast of the 2009-2010 school year was anchored by Annie, Malaika and Sam. Jen Wagner was our guest and we featured a music set by Big Surrender. Our apologies to Jen for our technical difficulties and we hope she'll come back and visit with us again in the future.

We are trying to broadcast on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 pm pacific/10 pm eastern, but we are going to shift our broadcast date for our next show to Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm due to a school event.

We know the Gator Radio Experience could benefit from improved publicity and PR. Please help us by Tweeting us, posting us to Facebook, reblogging, linking to us, telling your friends about our projects, etc.

The GRE Team thanks all of our supporters and listeners. We're looking forward to a great second season!

*Note-please excuse the slightly wonky audio. We hope that audio from our next broadcast is improved.

GRE Participates in Classroom 2.0 Live!

Classroom 2.0 Live! is a regular Saturday morning free professional development experience for teachers. Visit their website to check out their full archives and to see what upcoming professional development experiences they have scheduled on their Calendar.

Anyway, Sam C and I had the good fortune to participate on last Saturday's CR 2.0 Live show to share about our experience with starting up the Gator Radio Experience this past year. I'm including my slides that we used in the presentation and the recorded audio from Saturday's presentation (courtesy of Jeff Lebow from Worldbridges). If you'd prefer, you may catch the recorded Elluminate session at the CR 2.0 Live Archives. At some point, if I have time, I'll try to sync up the slides with the recorded audio and post as a slidecast over at Slideshare.net. Until then, just click through the slides as you're playing the recorded audio if you'd like.

Thanks to Sam C. for waking up early on Saturday morning and participating with myself and the CR 2.0 Live project!

GRE Participates in Teachers Teaching Teachers

GRE Participants Malaika, Sam, and Natalie M joined Paul Allison and Susan Ettenheim on the "Teachers Teaching Teachers" Wednesday evening live webcast over at Edtechtalk.com on May 20th to share their thoughts on starting up the Gator Radio Experience live Internet radio project this year. During this conversation we spoke with two of Paul's students who are quite interested in beginning a live Interent radio show of their own. Hopefully we can find a way to collaborate more with Paul and his students in the future.

Gator Radio Experience Episode #17 Podcast

This was our final official broadcast of the 2008-2009 school year. This night was dubbed "Senior Night," where we bid farewell to our Senior leaders on this project, Nicola Schulze, Angie Moore, and Stephanie Leung. Our fourth senior, Kaitlin Carano, was unable to join us but we were happy that she had the opportunity to co-host one final broadcast on May 5th. Our featured band for this broadcast was Punchface, and our music expert Sam C did the intro and song sequeys for this spot.

The Gator Radio Experience would like to extend a great big virtual shout out to all who have supported us in any way throughout the year. Your participation, contributions, comments and encouragement really have helped us persevere through 17 live broadcasts.

Stay tuned to this blog and our Twitter Stream for more news and updates from the Gator Radio Experience. There is some talk of a few summer broadcasts, but if not we look forward to coming back ready to go during the 2009-2010 school year with the Gator Radio Experience Version 2.0.

Have a great summer!
